Ability Development & Inclusive Communities

Empowering People With Disabilities

Disabled people have the right to determine and control their lives, make their own decisions, and have equitable access to information and resources. They deserve to live in communities and families with inclusive services.

We work with an integrated life cycle approach, serving all the needs of disabled individuals and their families. Our mission is to build capacities, enabling them to negotiate their needs and rights with society and the state.

Delhi-NCR Based Program

This program reaches nearly 500,000 people for early identification of disabled individuals in vulnerable circumstances. It sensitizes and builds capacity in areas like health, habilitation, rehabilitation, education, art, culture, transport, livelihoods, and independent living.

Rural Community Based Program

Based in Ballabgarh, Faridabad, Haryana, this project covers 82 villages under 67 panchayats and 9 peri-urban areas. With a cross-disability and life-span approach, it responds to the changing needs of people with disabilities, aiming to create evidence-based knowledge and standardized tools/processes to enable replication and scaling up.
According to the 2011 Census, 2.16% of people in Faridabad are persons with disabilities. However, a 2016 household survey by AADI in 25 villages shows this percentage to be 3%, and is likely to further rise as per RPWD Act 2016. Comprehensive approach of this intervention aims to provide access to information, education, health facilities, skills training, financial literacy, peer support, and community participation.

Urban Community Based Program

Initiated in Sunder Nagri in 2016, this program is based on learnings from the rural program in Ballabgarh. Sunder Nagri is a resettlement colony in the Shahdara district of Delhi with a population of around 100,000. The community project in Sunder Nagri combines strengths to launch comprehensive, cross-disability, community-based services ensuring inclusion, participation, well-being, habilitation, and rehabilitation of persons living with disabilities in urban poverty areas.
